Couple Counselling
Couples seeking counselling have often reached a point in their relationship where communication has become difficult. Couple Counselling offers a safe neutral space where each person can be heard, valued and respected. I have over twenty years experience working with heterosexual and single-sex couples and this experience has allowed me to appreciate that developing an understanding of how each relationship evolves is a significant part of moving to resolve difficulties. This approach allows the strengths in the relationship to be appreciated and any issues or challenges to be addressed from a positive place.
For some couples the decision to bring their relationship to a close is a positive one. This can be a shared decision or the decision of one person in the relationship. When working with couples parting the focus of counselling is to develop an ending that is constructive and healthy.
Examples of some of the issues that can be discussed in couple counselling:
- Communication difficulties
- Affairs
- Power dynamics in relationship
- Domestic violence
- Sexual issues
- Loss – bereavement, job
- Parenting – post divorce
